January is typically a time for resolutions and trying new things. We’ve recently been praying the collect on Sunday evenings for the day’s Mass. It’s a great way to tie family prayer to the prayer of the Church, and since we already spend time with the Sunday readings, it has a catechetical benefit too. (The collect is tied to the readings and the day’s feast.) Here’s today’s prayer, provided by CatholicCulture.org:
Almighty ever-living God, who, when Christ had been baptized in the River Jordan and as the Holy Spirit descended upon him, solemnly declared him your beloved Son, grant that your children by adoption, reborn of water and the Holy Spirit, may always be well pleasing to you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
