Not so long ago, secular sports organizations, e.g., Little League baseball, Pop Warner football, would decline to schedule games and practices on Sunday mornings in recognition that many — most? — Americans devoted that time to worship. Nowadays, you can’t even get parish teams to keep Sunday mornings off limits. Kudos to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati for putting its foot down with its new “Policies on Parish-Based and Elementary-Age Athletics”:

1. Sundays: No scheduling of athletics activities (including games, practices, tournaments, meetings, etc.) at parishes, schools or other facilities, on or off-site, on Sundays before 1:00 p.m., or during regular Saturday afternoon and evening liturgies at Catholic parishes.
