This Christmas we’ve been spinning the late legendary choral conductor Robert Shaw’s Songs of Angels: Christmas Hymns & Carols, a collection of familiar and traditional Christmas songs. Recorded twenty years ago, his chamber singers were at the peak of their powers. We now have four choristers at our home, three of them members of the superb choirs at Walnut Hills High School. Our Walnut singers are very familiar with Shaw, as he is a hero for their new choir director. Amazon sells the CD for a reasonable price, and it can be downloaded instantly for some Christmas Day listening.

More on Shaw here and here.

On a related note, our parish invited singing alums to join the middle school choir at the 10:30 “Midnight” Mass last night, so we got to listen to all four of our singers as we welcomed Christmas. It was a much appreciated homecoming.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.
